Bochum, Nordrhein-Westfalen

i was here for a gig for my fave band THUNDER and the exhaust fell off my car – I called into a garage and despite me not speaking any German and the employees not speaking any English we managed to get my car fixed and back on the road – they wouldn’t even take any payment – excellent people and I’ll be forever greatful!

Chernobyl, Kyivshchyna

Untitled

I had seen a lot of documentaries and read a lot of books, but nothing compares to actually being there. To stand at the site of the worlds worst nuclear accident, to think about the people who gave their lives to save the rest of us from what could have been a world devastating event, is very humbling.

It astounds me that in school children are taught about the world wars, pearl harbour, the gulf war, and are not ever told about Chernobyl. Most people who I told about my trip had never heard of it!

If you visit here, I highly recommend the Chernobyl museum in Kiev too.

Prypiat, Kyivshchyna

Untitled

I went here in Jan 2009. I’ve wanted to go for years but was offered an opportunity to go at short notice and i jumped at it.

The silence of the place is amazing, it has an aura all of it’s own.

It was bitterly cold (-16) when we were there but it was worth every second. I didn’t get to see as much as I wanted and I’m now planning on going back as soon as funds allow.
