This is the spot for all of the surfers/kiteboarders/windsurfers in the world to make a pilgrimage to. It is epic. There can be winds of 30 knots crossing waves of 15 feet on a pretty average day in the winter and that leads to blast off!Watching the world class surfers and windsurfers here is a dizzying experience. I have seen guys like Robbie Naish hit double loops on a windsurfer. It can be an awesome place to hang out and watch it all. I recommend coming here at least once during your trip.

Paia is a true old Hawaiian town. It is as close to “old Maui” as I have gotten in the last 15 years. Everything happens at a slower pace here. Island time is more than an expression. Food abounds here from the best of organic markets to restaurants that cater to the hungry surfers you can get great grinds in Paia town. Paia is also the gateway to Maui’s northshore, a surfing and windsurfing mecca that draws world class talents from around the globe. Head up the road to Ho’okipa beach park and just watch in amazement at what these guys can do with nothing but gravtiy and wind. It’s truly inspiring.

Further along the road (you’ll have to ask locals where) is a locale with some of the largest waves on the planet. It only goes off once in a blue moon but Peahi (or “Jaws”) is the real deal. Faces in upwards of 60 feet are known to have bee surfed here. There are great vantage points from the cliffs above btu getting in the water here is not for the uninitiated. Tiday wave sized surf can kill you bro, and thhat’s no lie. Leave it to the pros unless you are one.

One of the best breakfasts you can get on the island. Very close to the center of town. An excellent place get your morning started. Local chickens have made a home under the adjacent buildings and have taken over the eating area as their own. You can’t miss them when seated outside. Beware the roosters!
