Jim Henson Museum

A review of this place: a boy and his frog

Technically, the museum is in Leland, MS, but Leland is so small that Wikipedia doesn’t even have an entry on it, and it’s barely outside of Greenville. The museum is a tiny house filled with Muppet memorabilia, as well as puppets and artwork from Henson’s many creations, including Sesame Street, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth. They pack a lot into a small space, located near Henson’s birthplace. It won’t take you long to see everything, but you’ll be glad to have spent that half hour fondly remembering so many things from your childhood and paying tribute to the man who brought us all so much joy.

frisbees in the park

Parc de Blossac is a wonderful place to take a bottle of wine and just hang out all Sunday. But if you play frisbee on the lawn, the locals may look at you funny—the grass is not for running around on, they say!

Groningen

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: a very comfortable city

I summered in Groningen in 2006 and loved it. It’s a very comfortable place, not too large but very concentrated in its Centrum and full of energy. There are always students about, as late as 2 or 3am, and it’s quite safe to walk about at those hours—not always true of mid-size Dutch cities (cf Leeuwarden or Amersfoort, dead quiet by 10pm!). Local restaurants, both brauncafes and ethnic places, abound. Taco was a particular favorite, and the portions at Napoli are enormous. Best pub: the Walrus, where every night there are different game clubs meeting (chess, go, strategy board games, cards). Lovely parks, too. And well-connected by rail with the rest of the country, of course!
