I like Leon much better than I do Granada. Granada is a tourist trap while Leon is next ‘real’ city. Nothing here is made up for tourists.

Remember to visit BOTH markets. There is the general market for day to day items and also an artisan market – both have unique items and if you are a market freak like I am then it will be more than worth your time.

This is a two horse town – one is dead and the other is on life support

If you are looking for examples of Spanish Colonial architecture Granada is the one place to go in Nicaragua. There are other cities that have Colonials (Leon for example) but Granada is totally tourist focused and the centre of town is full of restored Colonial houses and building.

Don’t take a taxi from the airport – walk out to the street and get one there. It will much cheaper.
