Schwartz's

Worth visiting!

This place...

...fills up really early – I arrived for lunch at about 11.30 and was lucky to get a seat! The sandwiches are good but get some extras too (fries, pickles and coleslaw), they’re just as good. Mmm…

Botanical Gardens

Worth visiting!

Really lovely...

...but I visited the gardens after the Olympic park and didn’t have enough time or energy to see everywhere I wanted to – I hadn’t realised how big they were! A surprising highlight for me was the insectarium, watching the ant colony is really fascinating (I can’t really explain it – there are videos of it on YouTube though). I also loved the bonsai trees in the Japanese garden.

The only food on sale in the gardens is ice-cream, so if you’re planning to stay for a while, it’s a perfect place for a picnic.

Le Parc Olympique

Worth visiting!

Worth visiting

The park is really big and there are a few different places worth seeing – I bought a combined ticket for the stadium and the funicular and I also visited the gardens, which are really pretty and were my favourite part.

Toronto

(in Canada > Ontario)

Worth visiting!

Quite a nice city

Not my favourite Canadian city, but it’s definitely worth visiting – if only for the food! I can’t remember feeling hungry once in Toronto. My favourite place is Burrito Boyz, I forget its exact location but the food is reeally good there. And of course The Cupcake Shoppe! One thing I really wanted to do while I was here was see a baseball game, but there wasn’t one on while I was there. I definitely wouldn’t mind going back sometime.

Henry Moore Gallery

Not worth visiting!

Didn't really like the sculptures...

...and I definitely didn’t like the drawings on the wall that accompany them. I think I’m just too traditional for most modern art to be honest!

Art Gallery of Ontario

Worth visiting!

I was really looking forward to visiting this museum...

...but unfortunately I didn’t know about the renovations, so when I came there was very little to see – just the Henry Moore gallery I think, which didn’t really impress me too much. When I go back to Toronto this will be top of my list of things to do.

Maid Of The Mist

Worth visiting!

SO worth it!

The queues can be really long and you do get absolutely soaked (if you’re at the edge of the boat anyway), but it’s so much fun. The boat gets quite close to the falls and stays there for a few minutes, it’s what I imagine being in a boiling cauldron must feel like!

Niagara Falls

(in Canada > Ontario)

Worth visiting!

Very impressive

The heat got too much for me so unfortunately all I did there was the maid of the mist trip, which is TOTALLY worth it – so much fun! Would have loved to do that “journey behind the falls” thing too, though.

Toronto Islands

Worth visiting!

I didn't do much here...

...because I was sick – just got the ferry over, photographed the skyline and got the ferry back again! It’s a really nice place for a picnic though, and when I go back again I definitely want to rent a canoe or a bike to see the islands properly.

CN Tower

REALLY expensive!

I think it’s really photogenic from a distance, and the glass floor is cool, but I’m not really sure this was worth the money I paid. I think I’ve just been up too many tall structures now to be impressed by them any more. :(
