Schwartz's, Plateau Mont Royal

This place...

…fills up really early – I arrived for lunch at about 11.30 and was lucky to get a seat! The sandwiches are good but get some extras too (fries, pickles and coleslaw), they’re just as good. Mmm…

Botanical Gardens, Montreal

Really lovely...

…but I visited the gardens after the Olympic park and didn’t have enough time or energy to see everywhere I wanted to – I hadn’t realised how big they were! A surprising highlight for me was the insectarium, watching the ant colony is really fascinating (I can’t really explain it – there are videos of it on YouTube though). I also loved the bonsai trees in the Japanese garden.

The only food on sale in the gardens is ice-cream, so if you’re planning to stay for a while, it’s a perfect place for a picnic.

Le Parc Olympique, Montreal

Worth visiting

The park is really big and there are a few different places worth seeing – I bought a combined ticket for the stadium and the funicular and I also visited the gardens, which are really pretty and were my favourite part.
