I lived here as a child in Wareham & Otis AFB. I was 9/10, but have fond memories playing with my brother who is now no longer with us.
We lived in many states growing up because my Father was in the military. Now that my children are grown and gone, I’m fulfilling one of my “life” goals which is to revisit all the places that I’ve lived growing up.
40 years later, I returned to Massachusetts. But, as I drove onto the base and to the location where we lived, I realized I had waited too long. Where my home once stood, was my lowly street sign in the middle of a flower covered field.
Amazingly, he was the only sign still standing…and I felt as if through all these years, he knew that I would return. He had survived demolition and had weathered the hardship of time to guard and protect the place that held my fondest childhood memories.
