Finally have a flight booked for September! WOOHOO!!!
over 4 years agoWhy not? It seems so beautiful. There is this part of me that is just begging to see Paris. And the plan is for next year. Maybe July. With a friend from Australia. I am really looking forward to it!
over 5 years agoSince last posting that I would be going here, I have been – twice! Two weddings.
First in Varadero – all inclusive resort (Iberostar Varadero). Nothing wrong with that I guess but it’s nowhere near any real image of Cuba. Strings of resorts along a beach. Beautiful swimming but not a cultural experience by any means.
Second in Jibacoa – another all inclusive (Breezes Jibacoa). This place was way nicer. I was nesteled between the sea (coral reefs everywhere) and a mountainesque landscape (part of which served as a film location for Jurassic Park!) I enjoyed the natural setting and the fact that there was only one other small resort nearby. I mingled with locals much more, toured the countryside, and the trip to Havana was amazing.
If I went again I would stay in a hostel in Old Havana. No more resorts (as long as there are no more weddings!) Havana was incredibly beautiful and has so much to see. Staying right in the heart of Old Havana would provide the REAL Cuban experience.
