I went there in summer of 1996 on a student exchange trip. I had a great time. I wish I had “seen” more instead of being dragged around the city for a couple of days. Make sure you hang out so that you really get a feel for the city and the people.

Yes, the ideals of Columbia do not match what it is in actuality, but it’s the ideals, the dreams of a utopia that make me believe and love it! It’s better than any old suburb because we do have that yearning for a better place for everybody (well some of us do anyway.) Not many places can claim that as one of their reasons for existing.
