Helsingborg

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Well, I visited but I didn’t really see any of the city apart from: Mjölkcentral – a disused milk factory, the Scandic Hotel (Helsinborg Nord), and a burger grill between the two.

Had a good time, though :)

Why I want to go to this place

Having been to Linköping last summer for the LCP party, I’ll be off to Helsingborg at the end of July for its follow up, BFP

It was fun seeing just a little bit of Sweden last year (from Skavsta airport by bus to Nyköping, then on the train to Linköping). This year, we’re flying into Malmö and driving up to Helsingborg. I’m hoping there will be some nice Swedish scenery – it was a pleasure to drive in Finland in 2004, and I’m expecting similar from Sweden.

Success!

A very successful trip. I realised that my French has improved greatly since I was last there (16 years ago), and that my self-confidence is much higher.

Therefore, after we’d sorted out the important hire-car insurance stuff, I switched into French and didn’t speak a word of English (except to wifey) during the rest of the trip. It definitely went down well, and everyone I dealt with was helpful and friendly.

Flew into Grenoble (Saint Geoirs) airport and spent 24 hours pottering around the region – visiting Postman Cheval’s palace and a little drive up in some Alps, eating food from the supermarket and staying in a cheap motel.

Lovely place, great scenery, nice people. Recommended!

Why I want to go to this place

Well, we’re on a plane at 09:55 tomorrow morning, jetting off for Grenoble airport to visit Postman Cheval’s palace, as mentioned in my entry 30 weeks ago. We’re only spending 24 hours in France, but it should be a nice trip.

Looking at the map, I now think it’s a shame we’re not spending longer – we could have popped over to Turin in Italy, and up to Geneva, too, in a grand tour of the alps.

Never mind… maybe next time :)

Why I want to go to this place

It sounds like a nice ‘safe’ introduction to the far east. I would consider a trip to Singapore before I did anything like jumping into China with both feet!

Been before

I’ve been a couple of times before, but I was young and introverted so I had a really hard time and didn’t enjoy it. Now I have a bit more travelling under my belt (and more French language ability) I think I’d like to go again.

My wife wants to see Postman Cheval’s Palace, so that seems like a good destination – maybe fly into St. Etienne and do a little tour around the region.

London

Not worth visiting!

Nope

I really dislike London, I’m afraid. It’s too busy, too smelly, too fast, too hot, too expensive, too difficult, too noisy. I will visit if a friend is having an event there, but I would much rather be in the quiet countryside than bustling about somewhere like that.

I haven’t been to many big cities, so I’m not sure if it’s London particularly or just big cities which I don’t like.

Matanuska

I would love to see the matanuska volcano which was formed when the softer outer parts of the volcano were eroded away by glacial activity, leaving only the lava core standing.

Thanks to Scott J for having the picture on his site and making me want to go there!

Germany

Worth visiting!

Well...

as part of my collection of Europe, I need to visit Germany. Any recommendations for someone who doesn’t do museums, galleries and tourist spots? I like quirky locations (urban or rural) and good scenery.

Skagen

Ocean currents

I would love to go here and see the ocean currents crashing into each other. I believe I got the location right, and I believe you can see it from the shore… if anyone knows different let me know.

Is there a particular season when the effect is better?
