I had been hearing less-than-pleasant things about Birmingham since it was announced that GUADEC, the GNOME Users and Developers European Conference, was going to be held here. I was pleasantly surprised, Birmingham’s much nicer than I was led to believe it was going to be.

New Street is a very nice pedestrian mall, and there are plenty of clubs and pubs on Broad Street. I haven’t had the chance to explore much beyond downtown, unfortunately.

I make special trips just to have the miso ramen at Sapporo-ya.

I was taking photos in Shibuya one evening, when I noticed a whole raft of people going to a cub called “Music Exchange” to see some guy named KEN-U playing.

He does Japanese reggae, and was amazing!

Some of the best night life in North America.

I was there for the O’Reilly Open Source Convention…

...Avenue Jean Medecin was all dug up. They’re putting in a new train line, but it was a huge mess… Nice is a lovely city, though!
