I was 7....  — 1 year ago

Those days people used to wear fleece’s and ugly shapeless jeans and no one cared because…....well because… it was normal. I was 7…. i was happy with myself, having a pot belly wasn’t a problem…having wild unfashionable hair was ok why? maybe because it wasn’t important… we were young and free.
So im 7, the thames is a big thing… its like the seaside but in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. A magic spot
that contained fish and mermaid just like all those disney films…. My mum tells me we are going on a boat ride….im excited… no, estatic. I cannot wait to go, counting down the days. It finally arrives, i have a packed lunch for the boat ride. It has fun food, a bounty, cherries, a unhealthy milkshake…my 7 year old mind thinks this is the highlight of the month.
We take a bus down to the thames, i pester my mum asking questions about the type of fish we will see, she tries to explain “very unlikely that you will see anything”. I brush that aside, i believe what i want. We reach, its fun filled. Lots of tourists and other young children. I grip my mum in one hand and my lunch in the other. We give in our tickets and await the boat’s arrival. It’s huge head nudges the port. I am practically jumping out of my skin with the excitement… I grab the rail and haul myself on board. I immediately run for the rail where i can look into the water…my mum calls out..i blank out any unwanted sound…i am focusing on the murky water expecting the entire cast of the little mermaid to come and welcome me to thier underwater metropolis.
The boat judders and shudders and i hear the engine cough into action and start chugging across the water. I smile, “this is it”..... It’s over much too fast, no sea creatures spotted but despite that i had such fun watching the disturbed water snaking away from its manmade intruder…I vacate the boat and wave goodbye to the driver… he smiles and tips his hat at me. I savour that day…

The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

You know those days you have over school holidays that are hot and unfulfilled? Well i had one of those. I wanted to do something arty…something meaningful that i could allow me to hold interesting conversation with some people. I called up pandy my tres(very) good friend. “Lets go down to london?”, she agrees. We meet around BRIXTON (the so called ghetto of london, but nothing threatening there honestly.) and take a bus 3 in the direction of central london. It was a hot day, i wore a brown and white linen skirt with a brown t shirt. Made me feel like i was carefree and touristy, even though i have lived in london all my life. We got off by river thames and walked to the musuem, felt like 100 miles, but armed with water and sweets it was fun. It loomed up before us. Grey but slightly modern with big huge steps that would look good in pictures. I smiled at the prospect of walking around with a light smile on my face that would make me feel like i knew what i was looking for, being 15 i was lost, i had no main aim, ?i wanted to be everything and anything, same as now.
We entered, pandy is an amazing artiste (www.queenindra.deviantart.com a lot of her stuff resides here, believe me she is amazing) she browsed, more knowlegable than i. I looked and saw a few (paintings) that caught my eye but i guess the ones i noticed didn’t really have any meaning, an eye such as mine cannot see or understand the best. We saw some arty people that looked like they were having a total blast, eyes damp kind of blast, they truly understood, i wondered what it was they saw, i yearned for it. What was this unspoken knowledge, talent, association? Let me join! hmmmm…. we wandered some more. I finally looked at the time realising i had to start making my way back home, it was of the utmost importance to avoid the reprimanding words i would recieve otherwise. I felt squashed, held back, i was almost there....you know that glazed over look people get when looking at art, i had almost perfected pretending it. It had ended, i was going back to being another stat, another insignificant young child that had nothing really wow to say….I got the bus back, watching those who came on wondering what story they had to tell, i listened to my music and watched the landscape as it slipped by, all my profound thoughts teetering on the egde of my tongue slipped away….back to before….a day to remember.
