Victoria Falls is worth viewing from the Zambian side. It’s a better view than from Vic Falls in Zimbabwe. Be careful! The rocks are slippery and there is no guardrail.

we took a ski lift up to the top, which was so frightening…we were so high and it was so cold. at times i had to close my eyes. we got off and walked around for a long time. to get down, you can walk the stairs, or take a sled. A sled. i’m not kidding. on a metal curvy track. with a hand brake. like the olympics. my husband went first so i wouldn’t hold him up. i rode the brake and screamed the whole way down. even the stoic chinese guards were laughing at me when i got off.

The culture!! food, art, architechture, pottery, colours, landscape! the wall, the dumplngs, the temples, the tea, the mountains, the city, the train…

why does anyone go back?
the freezing temperatures, lack of transit, horrible food, terrible conditions make me so sad for the people that live there. it’s a hard, hard life. the 50 yr. old women look 80, and you’d better hope you don’t get really sick too far from a hospital. what an awful place.

We had the best of both worlds. We stayed at the pricey Hwange Hotel with the gorgeous rooms, buffet, classy restaurant, pool and ate breakfast and lunch while overlooking the watering hole and watching the zebra and deer walk around. Then we stayed at the $10 lodge with the shared rooms and cheap cots. It had hot water and a tub, so who’s complainging. The 5 hour safari was amazing.

africa feels like home. you never forget the smell.
the people, the landscape, the animals, the trees, even the dirt is different. i want to explore the whole continent.
