Nicaragua, Central America And The Caribbean
Untitled
If you can find a good, reliable, respectful group of people to go with (for safety in numbers) do not forget about the east coast. The cities in the west of Nicaragua have their charm, but the country’s real beauty is in places like Bluefields and Pearl Lagoon. To me, this is one of the few places in the Western Hemisphere that are barely touched by commercialization, so life is about relationships with people, family, and nature. Beautiful! And the rainforest is still largely intact on this half of the country, jaguars included.
However, be sure to stick to well cooked food, peel your own fruit, don’t use ice, and only drink sealed bottled water. Along with lack of development comes a lack of the sanitation we take for granted, as I found out the hard way. :)
