I can’t believe I’m a native Californian and it took me until I was 51 years old to visit Yosemite…but it was every bit as glorious as I thought it would be.

Portland, Oregon

PDX

I love Portland—lived there for 5 or 6 years. Spent a great day there in January. Stayed at the Jupiter Hotel on Burnside. Nothing fancy, but reasonable…and the Doug Fir (restaurant and club) is attached. Hit North Mississippi Street, my boyfriend’s childhood neighborhood, which hass been mostly gentrified. Check out The ReBuilding Center there—very cool. Had lunch at Fuller’s Coffee Shop in the Pearl and later a coffee date at Little Wing Cafe there. Then Powell’s, of course—no trip to PDX is complete with going to Powell’s.

This is a sweet little town off I-5 that borders the Sacramento River. There’s a California State Park—with a campground!—right in town, and a public park on the bank next to the river.
