Beware of the Lofstel! While the price is nice, the accommodations are less than clean.

I went for the fifth annual Indiana Wine Fair. Usually, Story is a very sleepy place, but there were crowds of white people for the wine event.

I went to Rockville for the annual Maple Syrup Festival. Two syrup makers experienced traumatic fires a few weeks before the festival; one lost the store, and the other lost the cook house. The weather was dreary, overcast, and generally uninspiring, but the pancakes and syrup were delicious. The vendors at the event offered a range of products. I purchased pancake mix from the Bridgeton Mill (which uses an old fashioned grind powered by water), a piece of folkart of a chickadee, and a homemade bar of java soap. We drove up to see the Foxworthy Sugar Camp which suffered the loss of their store, which was originally built in 1861. The sap wasn’t running from the trees due to the cold weather, so the Foxworthy’s were boiling sugar water instead of syrup for the tourists. Then we wound around Annapolis to see the Jackson Bridge, one of two white covered bridges in the county (most are red). We drove past a magnificent gully on the road toward the bridge. Thankfully, we were not torn apart by the country dogs that stood barking at us from the roadside.
