Paradise Island, Bahamas

Vacation of a life-time!!

I went down to Paradise Island Sept 2005 with two friends for a week long vacation. We stayed at the Harborside Resort, which is 1 free shuttle bus and 3 minutes away from the Atlantis resort. While trying to make the best of our trip, we decided to see places tourists normally don’t get to see. We snuck up to the top of the slides at night when there were no lines and empty pools. There is one slide that goes straight right through an aquarium tank, and let me tell you its 20x more scary at night when the slide is closed! We also got pictures of ourselves sitting in a shark tank with sharks swimming near by. We mustered up enough guts to touch the head of a live shark! We enjoyed the beautiful beaches and aquariams. I highly recommend you rent scooters for a day and go over the bridge to the island of Nassau (remembering to stay to the left!!!!!). We went on a snorkeling trip and hand fed schools fish on the reef. We also went diving with sharks on the edge of the continental shelf. We gambled, and of course drank ourselves silly. For food, we went with the American meal plan available through our resort. That was $575 for 6 days of food, 3 meals a day. Without it I would have spent twice that easily on just food. DEFINITELY eat at The Marketplace, you wont regret it. It is the largest and most diverse fresh buffet you have ever been to.

There is enough on Paradise Island and the island of Nassau to keep you busy for a month’s long vacation, without a doubt. While we were there they were also building an entire new section on the north side of the island. Just be advised it’s really EXPENSIVE. A bottle of water, $8. $6 gets you a beer. (for cheap beer, ask around while scootering in Nassau!) What else would you expect from a multi billion-dollar resort, that even the Queen of England even owns stock in!

The picture above is looking down at the slides, 4 main pools, sun bathing areas and fountains on the north east side of the Atlantis resort….. from the roof of the east hotel tower, the tallest building on the island!!
