St. Mark's Place

Not worth visiting!

Gentrification, all the way. Religious Sex closed, even Dojo’s got shut down. You can get all the sushi and piercings you want, of course. And there’s a CBGB’s store (a whole store!). Plus everyone I know has moved out of town. Feh. Go down to the Rivington area instead.

A tip I have about this place

Seriously, avoid the high tourist season (July and August). It is a miserable time to be there if you want to do anything but feel like you’re at a seaside resort. Come up in late May or early June to get the nice start-of-summer weather and avoid crowded everything.

The first time I went to this place

I went on a weeklong vacation with about 30 college friends (sort of a reunion trip) and it was awesome! We did a lot of different things – outdoor excursions, museum trips, lighthouse tours, etc – and just enjoyed the weather. Go in midsummer if you want the water to be warm enough to swim in.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Worth visiting!

As a kidlet I went to summer camp near RMNP, and spent a month hiking and backpacking all over it. Blue Jay Lake was my favorite spot, as I recall, though I’m quite sure I couldn’t find it on a map if you paid me. It’s a gorgeous park, with many different types of hiking trails.

A tip I have about this place

The Bata Shoe Museum was unexpectedly awesome! I didn’t get the greatest sense of the city, but it seemed like a nice place to live or visit.
