Celestun, Yucatán (State)

Flamingo sanctuary

Celestun is a town that sits on the Gulf coast, about 1 hour from Merida. It’s worth the drive. The place is famous for their bird sanctuary. Once you get there, they have boat tours of the sanctuary. They take you deep into the jungle, turn off the motor (kinda spooky) and drift into the sanctuary. Its a lagoon with hundred of thousands flamingos, resting, flying and landing. The place will leave you speechless. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you take a drive out to see this.

Chichen Itza, Yucatán (State)

Wow

Alot to see. Alot of history involved. It’s worth getting a tour guide. I didn’t climb up to the top of the pyramid, due to time. Instead I choose to tour the inside. I don’t think they have that open to tourist anymore. I climbed the inner pyramid to the top and saw the jade jaguar. It definetely will be an experience I will never forget. I plan on going someday during the sprin equinox.
