A tip I have about this place
The new Stinky’s Fish Camp, nearby, is a hidden treasure. This is New Orleans cooking at its best.

National Geographic Traveler has a short piece in April 2007, p. 46, about Santa Maria in Marvao, “the ultimate Portuguese retreat” at only $137 with breakfast. Sounds breathtaking.

Visited a few years ago. A lovely old town, like Williamsburg with actual residents.

Yes, the moonbow. Look it up. A thoroughly charming, though tiny, town. Also track down Old Gerry’s Restaurant, the original home of the Whopper. (Ask them about the story.)

On a clear day you can look down all the way to the coast. Kruja is a lovely and charming town, with an Ethnographic Museum (a centuries-old house museum) that must be experienced. There are shops with artists and weavers, and this is a great place to buy wood or alabaster carvings, beautiful rugs, unique paintings, and even the traditional clothing for which Albania has long been famous.
Eat at the Restaurant Turist, which is much better than the name implies!

I’ve never been to Austin, but I’d love to visit for the music scene. I haven’t been impressed with the rest of Texas.

The largest college campus in the world (28,000 acres), and one of the loveliest. Visit the Old Mill, Oak Hill, and the Ford Buildings (“The Castle”). Stay in the Guest Cottages.
This is where the “Virginia” scenes in Remember the Titans were filmed. Oak Hill was the mansion in Sweet Home Alabama.

Charleston, South Carolina, has everything Savannah does, without the oppression and snottiness.

I spent a lovely week here once. I fell in love with this town. I found an amazing Thai restaurant, a fantastic new & used music store, charming house museums, a lovely bazaar with sweetgrass basket weavers, and beautiful old buildings all over town.
