Picturesque, once you get past the city pollution

If you can make your way through the orange barrel slalom on every freeway in the metro detroit area, and the traffic through the other cities, you are on your way to picturesque settings.

This is where mother nature resides when she’s PMSing though, jsut to warn visitors. Weather is as unpredictable as a teenage girl doing anything.

In general the people are friendly, nosy in the rural areas, but in the urban and suburban areas people tend to stick the business of their cliques and themselves.

We are a helpful lot, though. I just hope you can predict mileage in minutes and land marks.

Toledo and Cleveland area

I’ve visted Toledo, mainly the zoo and COSI out on the river front. Seems like a pretty cool city.

The Cleveland area offers something similar on a cultural level to Detroit’s scene. Music, art, and independence abound. There is a neat little street in the heights called Coventry. Has a coffee shop or two, a bar, a video store, vintage toy store, independent bookstore with several levels, and few neat nick-knack stores. During the day its pretty empty, but come evening, you get a mixed bag of punks, students, adults, and people from all walks of life looking for a place to find some semblance of life outside of work and daily drudgery.

The Wade Oval on Case Western Campus has the art museum, the field museum and the botanical gardens. All worth a good once or twice over. The cultural gardens are around there, too, somewhere. And the scenery there is perfect for anyone with a camera, or several hours to sit and watch the day go by.

Chicago Only

Only city in Illinois I visited was Chicago.

More than worth visiting. Set aside several days, maybe 2 weeks worth of days to not only see the popular tourist attractions, but to also catch everything going on through just being there, and walking around, catching the El and seeing more than downtown.
