The end of a cross-country road-trip. Stayed with a friend, visited the sights, would definitely return.

Just a quick run-down...

Canal Street gives me the heebie-jeebies, the locals are cheeky but fun to talk to, a lot of pigeons I saw had stubs for legs (must be related to the pigeons I see in Seattle), wandered around Greenwich Village and had a good laugh when the man a friend was ogling turned around and made out with the man another friend was ogling. Talked to a woman for about ten minutes before someone told me she was a he (and I’d been so confident in my ability to tell between the sexes), entered a subway tunnel for the first time (the air was rank but you catch yourself trying to get a breeze off the next subway just to relieve the heat).

Wander Times Square and try to look like a local so vendors stop haggling you, met a new friend that looks like Carrot Top’s lesser-known twin(ish) brother and score tickets to a comedy show at the Comic Strip. Catch the subway again to a park-like place (I..can’t remember where :\) and watch the Statue of Liberty across the way. End up at the Comic Strip just in time to catch the show, laugh until your face, mouth and gut hurts then go back to friend’s place in NJ.

New York is, in a word, exhilarating.

Tried to outmaneuver a rainstorm of sorts (silly driver, the rainstorm will catch up with you) and ended up pulling over in Somerset or somewhere near to take pictures of the lightning bolts shooting down toward the sign of the fast food restaurant across the street.

Once it dissipated we were back on the road.
