Metropolitan Government Building

(in Japan > Honshu > Kantō > Tokyo > Shinjuku)

Worth visiting!

The free version of Tokyo Tower

A great vantage point to see the entire city, even Mount Fuji on a good day. And you don’t have to pay! It’s brilliant.

Odaiba

(in Japan > Honshu > Kantō > Tokyo)

Not worth visiting!

Meh.

It’s a giant mall, with a crappy “beach” etc. Nothing too exciting.

Monbetsu

(in Japan > Hokkaido)

Not worth visiting!

Not much to see, except ice

There’s a tower you can go to and watch the icebergs in the ocean during the winter. But since it’s so damn cold, it’s probably not worth the trip unless you really like icebergs.

Tokyo Tower

(in Japan > Honshu > Kantō > Tokyo > Minato-ku)

Not worth visiting!

A bit of a ripoff

...considering that the deck of the Metropolitan Building in Shinjuku is taller, and you get a similar view of the city for free.

Tip: if you want an awesome view of Tokyo Tower, go to the deck outside the Mori Tower at Roppongi Hills. Excellent photo spot.

Roppongi

(in Japan > Honshu > Kantō > Tokyo > Minato-ku)

Worth visiting!

Go, but not for the clubs

The expat clubs in Roppongi are overpriced and pretty boring… good for getting laid, but not much else. But do check out Don Quijote (open 24/7!), and if you’re aching for a taste of America, Friday’s or Wolfgang Puck’s.

The movie theater at Roppongi Hills has movies all night, and I would hazard to say that it’s the nicest theater in Tokyo. Not too expensive, either.

Tsukiji Fish Market

(in Japan > Honshu > Kantō > Tokyo > Chuou-ku)

Worth visiting!

Go at any time of day

The “best” sushi is supposedly served up early in the morning, but you can get great sushi at any time of day or night at any of the 24-hour restaurants next to the market.

Also, be sure to check out Honganji, the big Indian-looking temple up the street.

Shibuya

Worth visiting!

Overrated but a fun place

Shibuya is incredibly crowded and very intense. It’s not my favorite place in Tokyo, but then again, crazy fashion isn’t quite my scene…

Brunswick

Not worth visiting!

Untitled

Brunswick is mostly notable as the first place you can get cheap gas when driving north on I-95. That’s about it.

Shinsaibashi

(in Japan > Honshu > Kinki > Ōsaka-fu > Osaka > Chuo-ku)

Worth visiting!

Untitled

One of the best places to go shopping in Japan, period. Lots of small stores where you can get great deals on clothes, trinkets, etc. etc. Big designers around, too.

Mount Fuji

Worth visiting!

Everyone should climb it once.

Nobody should climb it twice. Unless they’re real masochists.
