Yep, I live in “Sin City”. Lived here for over 15 years. It’s not all the fun and games everyone always makes it out to be, but it’s a great place. There’s plenty to do here: movie theaters, bowling, parks, restaurants, etc…everything you’d find elsewhere. And yes, there are HOUSES here.
Las Vegas is basically a big “valley”; down in the middle is what we call “The Strip”, which is on Las Vegas Boulevard. Here you’ll find all the major casino/hotels. And no, not everyone that lives here is a stripper or works at a casino. We’ve got plenty of other jobs here too!
The I-15 Freeway takes you into what’s called the “Spaghetti Bowl”, a big soup of freeways that intertwine and take you different places around the city and elsewhere. The US-95 takes you to the edges of the city, and up into the community Summerlin. Summerlin is a master-community created by Howard Hughes that encompasses a large region of Northern Las Vegas with many sub-communities and houses. There are ample high schools including magnet schools and performing arts schools, a state college, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).
Vegas weather is somewhat unpredictable. It can be over 100 degrees one day, and the next it’ll be windy and in the 70s. Winters are generally quite cold though it never reaches below 30 degrees (usually). It snows up in Summerlin very rarely, and not very much when it does. Rain here isn’t very common, and it usually doesn’t rain for long periods of times. There are no real natural disasters in Vegas; no hurricans, no tornadoes, not really any earthquakes (though small ones may occur rarely). Summers get VERY hot, upwards of 110 degrees most summers. Springtime is nice, and fall is nice.
Vegas is a good place. For living? It’s cool. I don’t recommend living here your whole life, but hey, that’s what I’ve done and I’m only one person =) I want to move away from here eventually, but for the time being, I’ve got college to look forward to! UNLV here I come!
