Uzès, Languedoc-Roussillon

What a great village! We visited in October 2006 for an international society meeting and what a stroke of luck. October weather was superb (it was actually warm some days) and there were not the summer crowds. Small and compact, easy to navigate, we felt like locals after a day or two. We rented a simple flat on SE edge of the center of town, which is adjacent to beautiful wild lands (the view from our terrace is included here). The marche on Wed (small) & Sat (large) is known throughout France as being one of the best – something for everyone without being overwhelming. There are some upscale shops catering to rich tourists, but there are also plenty of typical shops for the locals as well. We’re looking forward to returning some day!
