The Menil Collection, Montrose

Untitled

Just a few days before coming back from Houston, my wife and I stopped in at the Menil Collection. It was absolutely incredible! I especially liked two pieces that are visiting pieces. One was “Red Rain” in the Colors and Lines Exhibit, and the other was the throwing knives in Chance Encounters. Both these pieces show beautiful interplay between the objects themselves and the shadows they create. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any pictures of either. If you know where I can find pictures, please let me know. :)

Museum Of Glass, Downtown

glassworks!

I got to watch as they made a vase that the audience helped design. It’s an incredible process. I’d go again just to watch them blowing the glass. And that’s without going into the galleries… which had some really interesting things including a ‘piano’. But one of the coolest things was the bridge outside between the Museum of Glass and the History Museum. It has all sorts of glass works along it, and one area where you walk under displays of blown glass art.
