I lived in Peru for 2 months. Most of that time was spent in Lima and then I backpacked around to Ica, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Huaraz, and San Pedro de Casta. I enjoyed all the places. Ica had amazing sanddunes to sandboard on. Make sure you get to ride the dunebuggies because they are not to be missed. Hostel was cheap, only 10 soles a night for a bunk bed. Cusco and Machu Picchu are a must see of course. Huaraz was fun. Perfect place for outdoor sports. I went up a glacier and saw some blue lagunas. Just be careful with the altitude sickness. San Pedro de Casta was one of my favourite places. Very quaint and not too touristy. It was a very welcoming town. I loved playing soccer with the little kids. Lima takes a while to get used to, but has some nice people and shouldn’t be overlooked if you want to know how many peruvians live. Very crowded and polluted, but interesting if you know where to look.
