Alcatraz, San Francisco

I still have a piece of the Rock

I picked a big piece of the flaking, oxidized iron from the gate to the exercise yard that the three famous escapees went out through during their escape. I have it somewhere in a mini M&Ms tube. I guess that makes me a criminal. yea! If need be, I’ll fashion it into a shiv.

National Zoo, Woodley Park

A Day at the Zoo

Back in the late 80’s, worked with about 10 people trying to install two ~20 ft. Washingtonia Robusta palm trees into the raised planters inside the Elephant House. We worked all day with various lifting tools & couldn’t lift the heavy rootballs high enough to make it over the lip of the beds. We went back the next day with a 10# bag of onions and employed a mature Asian Elephant to do the job for us. Done in 5 minutes. No sweat. She was SOOO sweet! You could tell she really liked helping.
