There is so much to do, right off the top of my head…
Check out the National Gallery, go to Kramer’s/Afterwards for dessert, have brunch at Trios or the Fox and Hounds, eat the Wild Billy Burger at The Childe Harold, see the panda’s at the zoo, check out te Natonal Catedral’s herb garden, check the Bonsai’s at the Botanical garden, the house of Fredrick Douglas complete with a “growlery”, admire the architecture of Pennselania Avenue (may have something to do with the coining of the phrase ‘post modern’ although I’m kinda foggy on the details, someone wanted change), listen to the echo at the Canadian Embassy (across from the Nat. Galleries), visit the Roosevelt memorial at night, the Korean memorial will place you in the midsts of a recon unit.
The lion pit of the National Zoo was built because an elderly man took his grandaughter (or some such relative) to see them caged. The lion grabbed the lttle girl, her head popped off as it would not fit through the gate and in seeing this the fellow dropped dead of a heart attack.
You can hear the lions roar at a quiet time of night in Adams Morgan, the first integrated neighborhood. Have some Ethiopian food while you’re there.
Visit the fish market or Eastern market if you plan a barbeque, the fsh market is quite a scene.
Visit the Masonic Temple on 16th street(if I remember correctly), don’t tell them I sent you. It is one of the oldest buildings in the neighborhood, the inside is quite impressive!
See THE Niagra at the Corcoran.
Visit the arts and crafts of the Renwicick collecion.
The Kennedy center may have something you will enjoy, while your there check out the Watergate.
Springtime is the best time, flowers everywhere;the ground, the trees.
If you go in the summer cool off at Rock Creek Park,it’s about ten degees cooler there.
Malcolm X park (Meridian Hill) may hold brief interest for you on a walk from thrifting on 14th and U to Adam’s Morgan. Before air coditioning folks would sleep there. It’s beautiful, was some silver spoon’s playground long ago.
If you can get a ride to Great Falls-enjoy yourself(hiking, deadly kyaking barbeque, picnic).
Theodore Roosevelt Island is great or the same reasons although less deadly.
You can rent canoes at the Thompson Boat House for the Patomac.
Small Chinatown adventure, go to Eat First for lunch, have some noodles. Use the Chinatown bus to get there from your city’s Chinatown.
Chinese supper? Go to City Lights-no question.
Want real good coffee, try the Java House instead of the chains.
Say hello to Scip at Union Printmaker’s Atelier, Inc.
There’s a fun filled week for you.
