A Charming Village Near Copper Canyon

I have been there twice and would go again in a heartbeat. Loved the cobble stone streets, the clean town, the friendly people. Absolutely picture perfect in every way. Take the train and go further into Copper Canyon from Creel.

Juarez

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Parts of Juarez are quite pretty and worth seeing. There is, however great poverty in Juarez—as in most Mexican cities, so be prepared to see dramatic differences between the very rich and the very poor. Unfortunately, most American tourists only see the “main drag” of tourist shops and clubs on Juarez Avenue and think they have experienced Juarez. Not true.

Atlavik Camping Ground

Worth visiting!

This is a great camping area with good facilities next to the Lake Logurinn in the Hallormstadaskogur Forest in East Iceland. There are birch trees and soft grass with picnic tables and grills for cooking. Ideal spot.

This little town is a very clean and a very green place to visit. The great thing about this area are all the trees. Forests in Iceland exisit in eastern Iceland. If you want to camp next to great lakes, green trees, and grass, this area is the place to be.

Reykjavik Botanical Gardens

Reykjavik Botanical Gardens

We really enjoyed this park. It was a wonderfully warm day in late June when we were there and everything was so clean and green. Whoever keeps up the botanical gardens does a wonderful job. There is a cafe in the gardens that serves delicious food. Because it was such a beautiful day, we chose to eat outside and enjoyed see a little boy try his first taste of cavier. He chose to spit it out. We truly would recommend seeing the botanical gardens for anyone who enjoys a city park experience. It was also interesting to see the Icelandic plants, which are all labeled. If you have some time to kill in Reykjavik and the weather is cooperating, I would recommend going.

Hallormsstaðarskógur Forest

Worth visiting!

Untitled

In my opinion, this is one of the prettiest places in Iceland and one of the least visited. The forest is beautiful. There is a crystal clear creek that runs into the lake and when we were there, it was bright blue skies and warm (around 70 degrees). I actually got a sun burn while hiking in the forest. To me, it was one of the highlights of visiting Iceland.

Wonderful place. On a clear day, you can see why they call it the “Alps of Iceland.”

Akureyri Botanical Gardens

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Lovely gardens set against a backdrop of mountains on one side overlooking the bay. Not sure how they keep it so green and beautiful, but I’d recommend going to see it if you are around Akureyri. Trees are beautiful, tall, and full of shade.

East Iceland

(in Iceland)

Worth visiting!

This is the least visited area of Iceland and one of the most rewarding in my opinion. It has pretty villages nestled in fjords, forested areas with pretty lakes and creeks, and farming country with cattle. Now that Highway 1 is paved from Akureyri to Egilsstadir, I bet more folks will check out this little visited area.
