This is home. Probably because I spent so many days here back when I was homeschooled, working with the naturalist and just roaming about. I’ve hiked every trail here at least ten times, some at least twenty. I’ve found artifacts, I’ve been stuck in a field during a lightning storm, I’ve had close encounters with bears and really pissed off raccoons. I’ve hiked here in snow, rain, and sleet. It’s home.

is probably the strangest place I’ve ever been. In one day it is possible to see hundreds of moais, climb to the top of a volcano, swim in the bluest water I have ever seen, and go spelunking. It is well worth a visit.

There is some guy who has been hiding from the government for decades because he has never paid taxes. He’s from Willow River, and occassionally shows up for a day or two before disappearing again.

I’m biased, of course, being born and raised in this state. There are lists floating around the internet about “you know you’re Minnesotan if . . .” and that’s me.
Yes I do remember the Halloween blizzard of ‘91 (that didn’t stop me from trick-or-treating either). I do pronounce “boot” and “roof” in a strange way. And I do tack “then” onto the end of sentences. I even use “uff da.”

I have technically been to the Porcupine Mountains, but we were just passing through, and I don’t feel like I got to know the area at all. I’m looking forward to going back.
