Titan Missile Museum, Sahuarita

Get your strangelove on.

The titan missile museum is a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s certainly a fascinating portrait of a really strange time in American history. Walking around above ground, your tour guide will give you lots of detailed but not terribly fascinating information about rocket engines etc. Once you head underground into the bunker, however, things get interseting. Just seeing how the place was built for the apocalypse and imagining yourself in that scenario is fascinating. Plus once you get to the control room you’ll get a rundown of the technology that powered the place, and how an actual launch would have gone down if it had to happen. That part’s certainly real fascinating, especially if you’re at all technically inclined.

Anyway, worth checking out, I’d say, just for the sense of history. Also, if they advise you to put on the helmet, don’t laugh. I’m 6’2" and whapped my head on a pipe. : )
