Fajardo, Puerto Rico

Untitled

Fajardo has a small harbor with water taxis/ferries to the outlying islands, tour operators for scuba and the bioluminescence bay. Definitely sign up for a tour of the bioluminescence, which is best described as fairy dust-infused water. Laguna Grande, also known as Biobay, in Cabezas is one of the best spots. Its far from light pollution, quiet, and several operators offer varying modes of access into the lagoon. In case you want a smaller and even quieter experience Vieques and other outlying islands feature similar lagoons and may offer a more exclusive trip.

United States Capitol Subway System, Washington, D.C.

Untitled

Taking the Yellow line from L’Efant Plaza to Pentagon gives you one of the best views of the capital from the metro. Just keep watching on the right side because it passes fairly quickly. On the way back you may also catch a glimpse of an airplane taking off from the National Airport. Besides the great architecture of underground stations, most stations also feature works of art. Perhaps the best is right outside the Silver Spring station, where a mural of penguins as metro riders adorns the subway underpass.
