Not a place for ornithophobes, I think I may have been there in the woodpigeon mating season or something, there were about forty-seven million of them!! Lovely scenery, peaceful, nothing but the odd tractor to disturb the tranquillity. Good for those who want to get away.

If you must do Calais, plan it properly. I wound up wandering around the town for hours, waiting for my ferry home with nothing to do.

It looks better from the coast road. A great place to drive past… but don’t bother stopping. Go on to Amalfi instead.

I thought Sorrento was pretty until I saw Amalfi. It’s the drive up that makes it worthwhile, though – don’t miss that part.

The mopeds, the pizza, the gorgeous little square with the restaurants and the pony-trap rides, the $x%x!&* of a tour guide who left us stranded in the Drains… but we thanked her for it afterwards! Such a beautiful, lively place, and amazing scenery, particularly if you drive out along the Amalfi coast – startling. I’d go back any day.

I love Cyprus. The people are lovely, they drive on the correct side (as far as I’m concerned!) and there was a sweet icecream guy who stopped outside our villa almost every day, sold us towering cones for a ridiculously tiny price – and when he saw that we hadn’t ordered for the last member of our party (she wasn’t hungry) insisted we take a free lolly for her anyway! Sun, sea, sand, mountains, peace. Cyprus.
