Fisherman's Wharf

Worth visiting!

New Year's Eve

Actually, I went there twice. The first time was during the day, and I loved watching the sea lions! They don’t smell that great, though…

The second time was New Year’s Eve. We watched the fireworks from Pier 39. A bit far away, but nice anyway.

Fisherman’s Wharf is nice, but I think it’s a place I will only go when I have out of town visitors to entertain.

Chinatown

Worth visiting!

Cool

I wandered to Chinatown the other day after work and found a great little bakery that sells one of my favorite snacks!!! I don’t know what it’s called in Chinese or English, but in Japanese it’s Goma Dango. It’s a kind of sweet red bean paste-filled donut covered in sesame seeds. Delicious!

I work in SF! I have only been living in the Bay Area for two months, but I love it!

California

Worth visiting!

Oops

I forgot to check off that I have been here. I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in early December 2005. Without a car, I haven’t been able to explore too much out of the City and the East Bay, but some day…

Point Reyes National Seashore

alas

I tried to go here on New Year’s Day, but HWY 1 was flooded! Will try again in drier weather.

Muir Woods National Monument

Worth visiting!

neato

I drove by on New Year’s Day, but it was nasty and rainy and we weren’t dressed for trekking in the woods. I heard that the forest scenes in Return of the Jedi were filmed here?!

Shimokitazawa

(in Japan > Honshu > Kantō > Tokyo)

Worth visiting!

My fave

I have been living in Tokyo for four and a half years, and Shimokitazawa is definitely my favorite neighborhood. Places like Shibuya or Shinjuku are ok for going out occasionally, but not to hang out on a regular basis (maybe I’m getting old…). Shimokitazawa is more laid back, less superficial… there are lots of great live houses, cafes, and little shops, and a lot less of chain stores (although there are two Starbucks. oops.).

Musée Rodin

Worth visiting!

super cool

Another fabulous museum. It is not too big or overwhelming like the Louvre, and it is so relaxing taking in the sculptures in the garden… although there was a lot of work going on while I was there. Dusty.

Musée Du Louvre

Worth visiting!

wow........

The Louvre is sooooo huge… it’s best to just skip things you aren’t interested in (I passed over Egyptian art, etc.) and see the art you really don’t want to miss. Wear the most comfortable shoes you own. Take lots of breaks. Bring your own sandwich and eat outside by the pyramids.
