Black's Gaslight Village

Why I want to go to this place

I saw an ad on Craigslist about a room for rent in the Gaslight Village. I went to their website and put in a request for housing there because it sounds absolutely fascinating to me. I am an incoming law student and I was born, raised, and attend college in Los Angeles at UCLA. It’s safe to say that I need to get out and experience something new for myself. The pictures are astounding and I love the architecture. I can’t wait to see it for myself!

Campus Progress

it’s been a while. i’ve been out of town in washington DC at the campus progress conference. not only was it filled to the brim with the nation’s sexiest progressives, it was constructive, thought-provoking, and super useful. i’m back with tons to offer to FEM, FMLA, USAC, and all of my other involvements.

my trip to DC was complicated, to say the least. it was supposed to be a direct flight with a stop in salt lake city for fuel. instead, they landed in salt lake city, transferred me to ohio, where i had to wait two hours, and then put me on the smallest plane possible to washington. it was free though; can’t REALLY complain.

there was a ton of social networking, great influential speakers, and some pretty awesome political commentary by seymour hersh about the israel/lebanon situation during our journalism training.

let me just say that there’s nothing sexier than a thousand young, educated progressives gathering to organize constructively to better our nation’s future.

there’s much to be said about journalism. there’s also a lot to be said about my own political ideology. i’m inspired to start a blog about politics, feminism, campaigns, and whatnot, but i don’t want to do it on livejournal. i’m probably returning to washington spring quarter for school and an internship with either the center for american progress or HRC. nothing makes you think twice about your life’s message than hearing barack obama speak about mobilization, organization, and fighting the good fight.

time to think seriously about my summer classes and the lsat.

interesting to see my roots

this country is so bipolar. on one hand, you’ll see some of the most industrialized cities in the world. beijing, shanghai, hong kong, some others are just amazing to visit (shanghai was my favorite). if you travel only a few miles into the countryside, you’ll also see some of the poorest, most underdeveloped places in the world.

the culture is exhilarating.
