How this place changed my life

Two days later, and my voice is still FUBAR. I was screaming too much on the Python, Pegasus and Flying Dutchman rides.
But the biggest ship swing in the world, the “Halve Maen” might have killed it off in the end.

A review of this place: Good food, good price, mediocre service

We had a very nice evening in this restaurant. Situated at Ferdinand Bol Straat nrs 18 and 20, within walking distance from the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Brewery and the famous Albert-Cuyp-Markt, this is a nice medium sized place with tables from cosy two seaters to groups of 25. The space is well designed, with a bar to one side, and openly visible kitchen behind glass, modern fireplaces and other design elements strategically placed throughout.
More than once throughout the evening, we had to be a bit pushy to get the waitress’s attention, but once we were served our food, it all did not matter any more.
We were treated to an amuse of lobster soup with artichoc hearts and Dutch crab.
Some of us took the three-course menu of the day, others only two courses. I had a main course of a stew of boar with pasta and butter pumpkin, which was delicious. With that, I enjoyed a glas of red Chateau de Valcombe. For desert I ordered “half” a portion of the cheese platter, which is served to the guests on a wagon, with dates, pumpernickel bread and apple-pear syrup. You could choose from the platter of six or seven cheeses. The enthusiastic waitress showed off all her cheese knowledge, which was extensive, contrary to her geography, as she insisted the amazing Shropshire Blue was from Scotland. ;o)
My colleagues were also very satisfied with their various dishes.
We finished off the evening with coffee, cocktails and dessert wine.
All in all a very nice place to come and eat, or just have a few drinks and a quality snack.
30 EUR buy you the three course meal, starters between 5 and 9 EUR, main courses around 19 EUR, dersserts between 5 and 10 EUR. Thursday evening is cocktail evening at 5 EUR a piece.

Bamberg

Worth visiting!

Why I want to go to this place

Technically, I’ve already been here before, but it’s been 13 years since I last visited the place where my grandmother used to live and where I still have relatives. My cousin will celebrate his 50th birthday on Easter Sunday, so I have already booked a plane to Frankfurt and will most definitely make it here this year.
Bamberg is beautiful and I have a lot of vague memories which need re-visiting. My favourite German children’s movie, “Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer” (“The flying class room”) was filmed here, as well.
I am really looking forward to Easter, now!

Detmold

The last time I went to this place

...I celebrated christmas there with my Omi, Mom cousin and boyfriend. The picture of Detmold town hall was taken when my bf and I ventured into town on the 24th of December.

Playa Del Carmen

A tip I have about this place

If you love great fresh food and beautiful fruit drinks, go and eat at 100% natural on “5th ave”.
In the short couple of days we spent in Playa, we went there twice. That says a lot.
We also ate at the “Blue Lobster” restaurant, which had great, uhm, lobster, but also other seafood.
But if I had a choice of one restaurant, I’d go for “100% natural”, again and again. Their chicken dishes are ace.

Anne Frank Huis

Not worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Go and visit when it opens in the morning. The more crowded it gets in there, the less of an impression of how it really was to live there in forced utter silence you will get. As soon as families with shouting toddlers show up, leave the mile-long queue and visit something else instead.

Lewistown

Worth visiting!

How this place changed my life

I went to Lewistown as a high school exchange student, age 16 – 17 during the school year 1990-91.
Staying in the States for a year helped me develop further English skills, both in conversation and writing.
The life experience of living away from your parents, on a different continent, is, in one word, unique.

Bray

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Climbing Bray Head is not easy, but once you’re up there (it takes about 20 – 30 minutes, normal shoes, no climbing skills necessary), the view over Bray is stunning. It is also very silent up there. On a clear day, one can see the Welsh coast.
I love this place.

My sister lives there with her fiance.
