As Sulaymaniyah, Iraq
Chinese Food
I went to Suley, the city spelled a million ways, in 2006. It’s a great city filled with fantastic people.
I went in January and it was really cold, but it hadn’t really snowed. We were assured that it usually snowed heavily in the winter, but I was delighted that it did not in 2006!
I stayed through July and grew to love the Kurds and their best city (in my opinion), Slemani. I got to celebrate Nawroz and picnic at Dukan. The picture is from the inside of a butcher’s shop near the big mosque where I bought meat for kebabs for my first picnin at Ahmed Awe, the waterfall near the border with Iran.
I also got to enjoy the sweltering summer months, but I hear that it got even hotter after I left!If you ever get a chance to go, do it!
But let’s be honest; a person can only eat so much shille.
If you go, don’t miss the Chinese restaurant in Sarchnar. It is the best food in town and some of the most authentic Chinese food I’ve ever had. Or maybe my tastebuds where just desperate for something new!
