San Sebastián

Worth visiting!

Untitled

A very relaxed (and sometimes expensive) resort town on the Atlantice coast of Spain. Some of the best pintxos we had in all of northern Spain. Unfortunately, a day trip for us, but it has certainly created an appetite for more of this lovely city.

Segovia

Worth visiting!

You could easily spend days just wondering the streets in the old art of town and taking in all of the sites. Unfortunately, I did it as a day trip from Madrid and was left wanting more.

Worth visiting!

A great town with great food and a great launching point for side trips to see more of the Basque country.

Not a bad place to spend a day or two to see the sites and enjoy the food.

Stellenbosch

Worth visiting!

The Wine Country in SA is stunning

We spent a few days in Stellenbosch after Cape Town and it was fabulous. We would drive to a few winerys, stopping to have lunch on the way and return to our lodgings, sit out by the lake and have a cookout and enjoy the wine we discovered from earlier in the day.

Durban

Not worth visiting!

Scary but beautiful place

We spent a few days here at the end of our trip to South Africa. The beaches on the Indian Ocean are lovely, but there is a huge amount of violent crime everywhere in the city. There were something like 3 murders close to our hotel and we were only there for three nights! Everyplace we went they would warn us not to go out after dark (with reason it would appear).

If I go back, I’ll spent time on the beaches near Cape Town and avoid the side trip to Durban.

Phuket

Worth visiting!

Look into one of the smaller beaches

We stayed in the Kata beach area and it is much more enjoyable than the international frat-boy crowd at Phuket Beach. Personal preference, I suppose.

Elko

Worth visiting!

Take a look around

There is some absolutely fabulous hiking opportunities a short drive away from Elko—that’s the reason you might find yourself in Elko (not for the city on its own).

You might be surprised to find the wildflower meadows and cool forests and streams on the mountainsides that you would never guess were there from looking up from the scrub at the bottom.

Lamoille Canyon is particularly impressive… check it out!

Bring your mosquito repellant

We went on a number of hikes in an around Eagle River and it was absolutely gorgeous. Just don’t get carried off by the mosquitos!

Sort of been here...

We took the train down from Anchorage to take a cruise on the Prince William Sound. The tight train/cruise/train schedule didn’t leave much time to ‘see’ the town, but it didn’t look like there was much there other than the stuff supporting the cruises.
