Schrannenhalle

no more...

Schrannenhalle is now defunct. No idea what they are planning to do with this space.

Mallorca

Worth visiting!

Overheard at this place

German, English, Japanese… if you came here blindfolded you wouldn’t know where you were. The Spanish architecture is all that gave things away.

It’s still very much worth visiting, especially if you can interact with some of the locals who are very kind.

The food is seriously delicious too!

Palma de Mallorca

A tip I have about this place

Check out the restaurants El Boxto and Tanto Amore – I am still thinking about them.

They have fantastic jewelry shops all around the old town. I love the colors, the architecture, and the quiet winding streets of Palma.

Stop by Hogan’s Bar to see Palma’s rock stars – Mama Kin.

Tasiilaq

Worth visiting!

Untouched beauty

Tasiilaq will always hold a special place in my heart. You have to arrive by helicopter or boat. Travelers typically come by helicopter from Kulusuk due to the unpredictability of the ice conditions.

The view over the glaciers and icebergs is simply breathtaking.

Once you arrive in the village the colors instantly jump out. We were fortunate enough to visit during August, when the wild flowers were visible.

If you visit Tasiilaq I highly recommend walking through the Valley of Flowers, going on an Iceberg cruise, and walking around town to see how things function.

Kulusuk

Worth visiting!

Kulusuk

This is a beautiful and amazing community that survives through hunting and imports. Life to the people here doesn’t come easy and survival is a real effort.

The spirit of the people, surrounding nature, and will to live is very inspiring.

Getting to Kulusuk isn’t cheap, but it is very well worth a visit.

Worth visiting!

Why I want to go to this place

I think it’s a serene and beautiful place. I will be finding out at the end of the month! We are staying for two days and have no idea what we will be doing with our time. Hopefully we’ll go on an iceberg cruise.

I’m curious if I will be encountering any snow, but those beautifully colored houses already make me happy.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

I realized how much I love this airport. Every time I go through I think ‘Wow!’ ... too bad the rest of Detroit doesn’t really live up to this beauty.

It’s a nice start to refreshing things. I still can’t get enough of that light tunnel – it’s stunning.

Red Light District

Red Light Ladies

Nonchalant would be the word I would use to describe this place. Many ladies in the windows were sending text messages or painting their nails while they wait for their next customer. Men prowl the streets and there is a strange tension.

There is a lot that I don’t understand here. I’m sure some ladies are there on their own accord, however it’s very complex and complicated. I couldn’t help but think about the ladies that were here not because of their own choice.

Sex and money are powerful things, but it’s a bit of a sad place that makes me feel people are being taken advantage of.

Rijksmuseum

Rembrandt and more

I was hesitant to visit this museum, but since we had a rainy day to spare and many friends suggested we visit, we decided that we should take in a bit of culture.

I was pleasantly surprised – they had two types of audio tours (one more historical and one more art oriented) – I went with the art tour and loved the historian that talked about his favorite pieces. The pieces that stand out in my mind are the Delft ceramics, doll houses, and of course Rembrandt’s Nightwatch.
