Savannah is nice for a short visit, but it’s not the kind of place I would recommend for an extended stay… and I certainly couldn’t imagine living there.
It seems like the streets of the entire city are shaded by giant cypress trees. It must be a great place to live if you ride a bike.
River Street is really neat. There are nice restaurants and candy stores. You can watch the ships coming in. The brick roads and old buildings are fascinating.
It’s really neat to look around as you drive through the city, but that fascination is barely good for the duration of a day. Hotels were VERY unimpressive, and it seems like just about everywhere you go it’s dirty.
If you’re going to Savannah, go for a day on your way to some other place. Go down to River Street, eat lunch, and watch the boats, and then head for Columbia, Macon, or Jacksonville before you get a hotel for the night.
