Kenosha

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I rode up from Chicago on a Metra weekend pass. Ate at Frank’s Diner (which I saw on the Food Network), checked out the free museum, rode the streetcar, walked along the lake front, browsed in some cool stores, and had a bratwurst. There was also a classic car show on the day I was there, so I got to look at a bunch of collector cars, too.

Washington, D.C.

Worth visiting!

It seems like a pretty nice place if you don’t mind batting away bums and crackheads.

Philadelphia

Not worth visiting!

Untitled

Worth visiting, but only if you’re with someone who knows where they’re going and what they’re doing. I was not with such a person, and when I took a wrong turn downtown I found my car surrounded by (I’m not exaggerating) hundreds of angry, noisy thugs who were jumping around and yelling and throwing things.

All I wanted to do was to see some historical sights. I never did find the Liberty Bell. There were bums and crackheads pushing shopping carts in and out of the historic buildings in Independance Square.

Charlotte

If you find yourself in Charlotte, make a point of eating at Wolfman’s Pizza near downtown.

South Carolina

Worth visiting!

I just arrived in Greenville a few days ago. It’s very beautiful here, and there are so many great places to eat. I can’t wait to get out and see some sights.

Cincinnati

Drove by too fast.

I got the chance to drive through Cincinnati en route to Columbus and I wished I had more time. Cincinnati is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever driven through, and I really wanted to get out and actually see the city. I will definitely make a point of doing that one day…

French Quarter

Worth visiting!

Love It.

I’ve been to New Orleans twice, and spent all my time in the French Quarter on both trips. I love it. The people are great, the atmosphere is great, the architecture is beautiful, and the food is amazing. Definitely worth visiting.

Savannah

Not worth visiting!

Good for a short visit

Savannah is nice for a short visit, but it’s not the kind of place I would recommend for an extended stay… and I certainly couldn’t imagine living there.

It seems like the streets of the entire city are shaded by giant cypress trees. It must be a great place to live if you ride a bike.

River Street is really neat. There are nice restaurants and candy stores. You can watch the ships coming in. The brick roads and old buildings are fascinating.

It’s really neat to look around as you drive through the city, but that fascination is barely good for the duration of a day. Hotels were VERY unimpressive, and it seems like just about everywhere you go it’s dirty.

If you’re going to Savannah, go for a day on your way to some other place. Go down to River Street, eat lunch, and watch the boats, and then head for Columbia, Macon, or Jacksonville before you get a hotel for the night.

Little Five Points

Worth visiting!

Litte Five Points is one of the coolest underground/alternative scenes anywhere.
