The famous riddle

Is only one reason I want to visit here.

Annapolis

Worth visiting!

If you like a smaller community's feel

but want the jobs/services of DC near by, this is the place to live.

Instead of some anonymous suburb like Vienna, you get a town with a rich history which is pedestrian friendly, picturesque and filled with decent (or better) dining options.

Victoria Falls

Jeanne has the right idea...

If/When I go, certainly fly into Zambia rather than Zimbabwe; with Mugabe behaving as he does, it really isn’t safe in Zimbabwe it would seem (and State Department advisories declare as much).

Sorriso

Worth visiting!

Great Italian Restaurant

DC has always had Galileo-class Italian restaurants. Prix-Fixe, $100+ / person, etc.

Below that there were no other options until you get to the glorified Olive Garden style places. Mediocre food, over-emphasis on South Italian cuisine (pasta), no wine list worth mentioning.

Well, there are now two great places to go out to, within a block of the Uptown; Dino and this restaurant, Sorisso.

I loved everything I had; do note that not all of the Crostini options are worthwhile. (Some are, but which is which I have forgotten)

The Washingtonian has this to say:

Pietro Polles retired after 26 years at the World Bank to pursue his passion of cooking. He moved to his vineyard in Italy, where he makes his own Merlot, and attended cooking school. He modeled his restaurant, Sorriso, near the Uptown Theater, on family-run places in the Friuli and Veneto regions. When son Stefano finished college, he went to Italy for training and took over the restaurant’s pizza-making operation. The result is a friendly-the women of the family run the front of the house-first-rate pizzeria with a menu of carefully prepared antipasti, pastas, and main courses.

Dino

A review of this place: A great "middle-range" Italian restaurant!

DC has always had Galileo-class Italian restaurants. Prix-Fixe, $100+ / person, etc.

Below that there were no other options until you get to the glorified Olive Garden style places. Mediocre food, over-emphasis on South Italian cuisine, no wine list worth mentioning.

Well, there are now two great places to go out to, within a block of the Uptown; Sorisso and this restaurant, Dino.

I specifically recommend the Proscuitto appetizer and the “Nutella Panini” dessert.

A review, from 10 July 2005: DC Foodies

N.B. They do take reservations now. (They did not before)

Steam Café

Worth visiting!

Low key place to hang out or get work done.

Pros:
• Free WiFi
• Great Food
• Coffee, Fruit “Smoothies”
• not too noisy

Cons:
• Even if the place is full, with so many people tapping away on laptops and the like, you do feel a bit… lonely.

Cilandak Campus

Worth visiting!

The upper school campus for JIS

I attended 5th grade here, and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Far larger than Pattimura, this campus (when I attended) was K-12, rather than K-4.

Where the giant "rain-tree" grows...

I went to 2nd-4th grade here.

I even remember some of the school song…

“In a corner of the world
where the giant rain-tree grows
and the sounds of childrens’ voices
fill the air…”

A school for expatriate children in Indonesia...

... Your other option being the British School.

I attended JIS from 1987-1991
