My girlfriend and I spent a week there and stayed an extra day for good measure. Athens is affordable, accessable, and absolutely astounding.

The best part of Naples was the pizza (best in the world) and the proximity to Pompeii. Other than that it was a little too New York for me. If big cities are your thing, you’ll be fine.

Absolutely beautiful, but not worth more than a day trip.

It takes a special place to be amazing even in the pouring rain. At Pompeii I ruined my digital camera, got drenched to the bone, missed a train, and loved every minute of it. It, perhaps most of anywhere I’ve been, is a place where one can become immersed in the ancient world. It was amazing!

Venice was another of my favorites. Sure, it smells like fish, and you’re just going to get more lost the more time you spend looking at a map, but if there’s any smelly city worth getting lost in, it’s Venice.

Rome is one of what I call the “lifetime” cities. As in, “you could spend a lifetime there and still discover something new every day.” I’ve been twice now, once for 3 days and once for 5. Once in the Summer, once in the fall. Both were amazing trips. GO THERE!.
