Maui

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Go when you have no conceptions of “seeing places and doing things.” Maui is best enjoyed at a very slow pace, and most likely on a beach far away from the bright lights and big city we’re all used to.

While there are many beautiful places in Maui, there’s nothing like being left alone on a beach with your boxed lunch and watching the waves go in and out.

The plate lunches at the shack by the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua is a SWEET option to the expensive food on the nearby resorts. If you’re in that area, bust out your seven bucks and get a load of food that will choke a small horse.

Wailea

Worth visiting!

Wailea is where it's at...

it’s not lahaina, and it’s not kapalua, but it’s probably the sweetest corner of the world in my opinion. stayed at one of the overpriced resorts, but had a tiny beach to ourselves. would love to do this again and again.

peep the mall if you’re craving civilization and nothing is too far away from wailea should you want to get some sushi or some L&L (you know what i mean!).

also, wailea is a lush, beautiful and wonderful place to be. we stayed in kapalua but drove down to wailea because we loved it there so much. have dinner by sunset in one of the hotel restaurants or just pack it yourself and head down to the beach!

Roma

(in Italy > Lazio)

Worth visiting!

If there was a place to ever go back to over and over again...

It would be Rome. I’m so glad I waited to see this place…the people were friendly, the sites were beautiful and breathtaking to withold. And the food was to die for.

I would suggest Rome to anyone as a jumping off point before you see the smaller cities so you get an idea of italy on the grand scale. People who are interested in reservations and such…I always use www.venere.com (no, I don’t work for them!)...and I found good places to stay in Rome.

Everything is walking distance (for the most part), so wear your comfy shoes and have a good time! Save your money and don’t buy too many souvenirs…use the money for some great restaurants!

Reunion Island

(in Africa)
Meet that Pen Pal!

So back in they day, in high school, I got a pen pal from Reunion. It was a place to practice my french, but his teacher corrected it and sent it back to me. Kinda insulted, I didn’t write back as much, and I switched to writing in English.

He wound up misinterpreting some stuff I said, and it got much worse (he asked me if I had AIDS, which was totally bizarre and had nothing to do with what I wrote him).

So I’d like to head over there to meet him, speak my horrible french and show him how healthy I am. Oh yah, and I heard the beaches are pretty nice :-) I’ll check those out too.

Notting Hill

Worth visiting!

bring your comfy shoes and prepare to shop!

my only regret was my shopping limit…i wanted to buy so many things on this trip…take your time to peruse the shops under the overpass too…lots of clothes (used/new) for you to check out.

just remember, there are tons of stuff you can buy elsewhere for cheaper, so don’t get caught up in trinkets you’ve seen elsewhere.

stop by the Hummingbird Bakery on 130 portobello road for some yummy red velvet cake!

Yank Sing

Worth visiting!

Worth the cost...

Okay, I’m not going to front. It costs bank to eat here. Not Boulevard bank, but bank for dim sum. But let me tell you why i put up with it.

i am about dim sum light. I don’t eat pork or red meat, so when i go traditional dim sum, a lot of my choices are limited. yank sing is good about offering non-meat alternatives to diners, and i really appreciate it. i know that it’s crowded too, but this doesn’t deter me from going, but make sure if you’re going to try and get reservations or at the very least, go early. and yes the food is really really tasty.

parking is tricky at the stevenson street venue, but you can find it if you don’t mind walking. i believe they validate as well. also, at the stuart street venue, it’s MUCH larger and validated parking is all good there too.

it’s a great place to take dim sum newbs. staff speaks english for those who are intimidated by things they don’t know about. have fun.

Missouri

Worth visiting!

St. Lunatics

Missouri was for me a place to visit only one person, my then fiance. I’ve never experienced that kind of humidity EVER, and it was an interesting experience. I won’t say that this is a MUSt see place, but it was interesting to see middle america for what it’s worth.

Drove around and got lost in University City. What’s up Nelly.

I visited some of the Universities there: Washington U., St. Louis University, and did a little shopping…it’s a cute place, but not the bumping urban environment I like.

Not a great place for vegetarians, it’s quite meat heavy, but there is a Whole Foods in Clayton that just made me feel at home.

Portland's a great city

What’s the deal with all the bridges! I like Portland a lot, but i needed to spend more time getting to know it. I was there for a wedding and I enjoyed myself. It reminded me of San Francisco were it not for the TONS of trees and more pedestrian friendly city. Nice work. I’ll be back ;-)

Minnesota

Untitled

i’ll be honest with you…it’s a nice place, but it did leave me wanting. maybe it was the point of my life where i didn’t go around enough to check everything out, but i was a little thrilled because there are tons of filipinos there. it helps when you feel like you’re the only one ;-)

lovely place. lakes galore and plenty of trees. guess you could say that’s all new to me. ;-)

Massachusetts

Worth visiting!

If it weren't for the snow

I’m such a California city girl that I’d freak out at the sight of snow, but I LOVE Massachusetts.

i’ve driven through to get to CT, but have spent time in Boston, which I adore. I think it’s cute that people have an accent here (they say I do, but you know how that is), but it’s a friendly place. Get a local to show you around…Boston is full of small places that are off the beaten path that are fun to check out. I have yet to be there when the trees turn, and I’ll be back for that!
