Poe spent the last years of his life in this cottage. He wrote “The Bells” and “Annabelle Lee” here. His wife Virginia passed away here and the bed she slept/died in is still there on display! I grew up right down the road from here and as a little girl I always thought the place was a kind of spooky. My father would tell me stories about Poe and I grew to love the place. I’d only been inside once when I was about 8 years old and I remember holding my fathers hand tightly because I thought the place was haunted. Maybe it is. Years later, in my early twenties, I visited again and loved it. Not just because one of the greatest writers of all time lived there, but because it holds so many special childhood memories for me.
