We visited Imlil in 2004 and stayed at the Kasbah de Toubkal, a wonderful place and centre for trekking in the High Altai Mountains and specially Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in Africa.

The only problem was my wife didn’t mention we were going there and when asked was shoes I needed to pack, she didn’t mention mountain hikes… or hikes at all… so I brought sandals.

Well the first day we hiked just up to a nearby pass and back… some four hours long, two of which were near death torture. Coming back my shoes where all over the place.

The second day I begged my wife to cancel the trip, she laughed at me. I begged some more, but by the time she agreed, our lunch had walked off on the back of a donkey! So I borrowed some slightly small boots from the hotel. The first hour up was fine, the next hour down, I lost my big toenails… only six hours to go… it was horrible!

I loved the place though… really lovely.
