I’ve been to NS twice in my life - last year and the year before that - and assume I will be visiting there more often. Nearly all of my boyfriend’s family is from there (‘cept his mum who lives down here in Mass.), and we drive up to spend a week or so with them each time we’ve gone. When we are not visiting with his relatives, we are driving ALL OVER the province in search of adventure, stopping at every single point of interest we can spot along the road. Some of the places that we simply adored were located in the Bay of Fundy, which boasts the highest tides in the entire world. My personal favorite spot was Cape D’or—if you are going to visit Nova Scotia (and aren’t too afraid of hights) YOU MUST GO HERE. There is a small amount of walking involved to reach the most superb part of the site (where the lighthouse is located), but it is well worth it. You can also have your lunch at the lighthouse itself! Oh, and beware the fog horn. hehe =)
I do warn however, that Nova Scotia - especially the coastal areas - are VERY prone to EXTREMELY HEAVY FOG. One time it was so difficult to see that we nearly hit someone walking on the side of the road because we couldn’t make out where the pavement ended and the shoulder began. Very dangerous.
P.S. Tasting the blueberries up there is a MUST. The blueberry is the best export from NS, so you simply have gotta try ‘em. Perhaps at a small diner or family-owned restaurant in some blueberry pie. =) You will be very glad you did.
