Tofino, Vancouver Island

Wet and wonderful

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon. It’s a quaint little place, and we were there on the off season, so a lot of things were closed, but the scenery was not to be missed.

The rainforest on the island is simply breathtaking. We took several drenching walks and looked on in awe at the things growing there. We found one little path that slowly climbed down through the forest and ended up on a secluded beach…and then we saw a bald eagle out there.

The ocean there is freezing, but you can play in it for a bit without needing a wet suit. It has a very wild feel to it.

I would highly recommend Whalers on the Point as a place to stay, and there was a fantastic little italian cafe off the main road that had some of the best food I think I’ve ever eaten.

I would definitely visit again.

Lake Champlain

I was only in Vermont briefly, but be sure to see Lake Champlain .. rumour has it the lake has it’s own monster!

A study in contrasts

Washington, D.C. was an incredible place to visit .. be sure to hit the Smithsonian, the monuments, and all the good touristy stuff. I’ve been there a couple times, and I adore the museums..especially the science and natural history parts of the Smithsonian.

Once you get outside the “tourist” area…Capital Hill, if you will, it’s a very sad place. When I’ve visited, I was struck by the contrast between the government areas and the areas where people lived.
