There’s a footpath that surrounds the island. It’s about one mile long, and the view is spectacular.

The airport’s three-letter code is SUX. I read that airport officials originally tried to get it changed to something with fewer negative connotations, but then decided to have fun with it, and created an advertising campaign revolving around the code.

I had never heard of this before, but it’s right across the Missouri River from Sioux City, Iowa. There’s a North Sioux City, South Dakota, too, that is (as the name implies) just north.

This is located in a strip mall between the highway and beach road just after milepost 13. It’s a small restaurant, and even though we arrived early one night after Labor Day, we had to sit at the bar or wait for a table, and the restaurant was full with a waitlist the entire time we were there. In fact, my only complaint is that we had to wait a long time for our appetizers and an even longer time for our entrees, but everything we had was absolutely delicious.
I believe the restaurant opened in Feb. ‘09, and it is owned by a couple. The husband manages the kitchen, wife manages the front of the restaurant. Did I mention the food is amazing? ;-)

A Halligan bar is a piece of firefighter’s equipment, giving the clever name to this fire-themed bar and restaurant. Tons of firefighter memorabilia line the walls and even the ceiling, and a cut-away firetruck is part of the wall behind the bar. The menu is small, and barbecue is the house specialty.
Unfortunately, it is currently just one small room, so the entire place allows smoking, but I read that the owners plan to open a smoke-free section upstairs.

This bar and restaurant on Broad Street pays homage to its former roots with its name and a furniture store-like display near the entrance. Great place to visit on First Fridays.

“French Arby’s” has been remodeled into a regular Arby’s restaurant in the same location.

This little place is actually accessed via 9th Street; enter the side courtyard for the building and go down the stairs on the right. Nothing fancy, but the service is fast, and the food is good and reasonably priced.

This place gets its name from a piece of firemen’s equipment, and the bar area even features a cut-down fire truck, with beer on tap from the Hook & Ladder Brewery, and staff uniforms inspired by firemen’s. The menu is limited but the food is good. My only complaint about this place is that it is so small, the entire place is a smoking section (at least until Dec. 1).

I don’t know the exact date but Zuppa is moving again, this time to Rockett’s Landing.
