Benidorm, Alicante

my first tattoo

On the way back to the US in May 2003, the ship stopped somewhere near here and I took a tour to Benidorm. The way it was explained to us was that we were going to get a guided tour around the town all day long and then all go out to eat as a giant group. We got off the bus and they told us that we were free to roam all day long. I bought a cool watch and got coaxed into getting my first tattoo (a moebius band between my shoulder blades).

The people here are very friendly and English is commonplace, so if you know not a lick of Spanish, you’ll be more than able to get by. As this was my first taste of foreign culture (other than a brief day in Bahrain), i will say that this place is highly recommended.

Gibraltar, British Overseas Territories

monkeys?

I’ve seen Gibraltar and the rock its famous for when I passed through the straits in early 2003 while in the Navy. Twas nice from afar, but I want to see the monkeys up close (well, not too close)

Guam, US Protectorates

its a little expensive

but it’s definitely worth visiting. I stayed at both the Hilton and Marriott in Tumon Bay and the view was absolutely amazing. The people are friendly and the place is very Americanized (which you can take however you want). I didn’t get to explore most of the island because I was working, but from what I saw, it was breathtaking. I would definitely go back on a weeklong vacation if I could.
